Jesús Torres is a renowned flamenco guitarist specializing in accompaniment and composing for baile. The Basque musician, who has played for great figures such as Antonio Gades, began his guitar studies at the age of twelve. After starting off professionally in genres like classical and rock, he moves to Madrid to learn accompaniment for baile. And he does so practicing with the help of baile maestros like Manolete, Sara Lezana, Merche Esmeralda, Raúl, Paco Fernández, La China, Elvira Andrés, El Güito... At the same time, he takes guitar courses with Rafael Riqueni and Manuel de Palma.

In 1992 he begins his professional career in flamenco dancing. He takes part in tours around Spain and Europe with the María Rosa Company, including theaters such as London’s Royal Albert Hall. He also works in the José Greco Company, who he tours America with. In 1993, besides performing as a main event at tablaos like Café de Chinitas in Madrid and Tablao de Carmen in Barcelona, he takes part in the International Dance Day gala with Belén Maya at Madrid’s Teatro Albéniz. The following year, he performs at Seville’s Bienal de Flamenco with El Mistela, Mario Maya, Belén Maya and Yolanda Heredia. In that same season, he joins the Compañía Andaluza de Danza (Andalusian Dance Company) as lead guitarist under director Mario Maya.

In 1996 he participates in the show ‘Réquiem Flamenco’ with José Antonio Rodríguez and the Córdoba Symphony Orchestra at Córdoba’s Gran Teatro. He also works in the shows ‘Carmen’ and ‘Fuenteovejuna’ with bailaor and director Antonio Gades. A year later, he plays at Barcelona’s Festival del Grec together with Miguel Poveda, Isabel Bayón, Mayte Martín and Belén Maya. Next, he tours Europe with the Isabel Bayón Company. With artists like Chano Lobato, Isabel Bayón, Javier Barón, José Mercé and Chano Domínguez, he participates in ‘Misa Flamenca’ in Madrid. He completes the year by working with Mario Maya in the show ‘Los flamencos cantan y bailan a Lorca’ and touring Australia with the show ‘La diosa en nosotras’ by Belén Maya. He returns to Seville’s Bienal de Flamenco in 2000 with Merche Esmeralda, in the show ‘La metamorfosis’ by Israel Galván and with bailaora Isabel Bayón in the show ‘El Inventario’. He comes back to the Sevillian festival once again in the following edition as a musician and composer with ‘Del Alma’ by bailaora Isabel Bayón. He takes part in Festival de Jerez 2002 with the show ‘La música del cuerpo’ by the Rafaela Carrasco Company, also as a musician and composer.

He plays with bailaora Merche Esmeralda at Madrid’s Teatro Real in 2004. That same year, he participates in Seville’s Bienal de Flamenco with the shows ‘La mujer y el pelele’ directed by Pepa Gamboa and starring bailaora Isabel Bayón, and ‘Los caminos de Lorca’ under director Cristina Hoyos.
