쉐리 크로스 / 바이올린 독주회
바이올리니스트 쉐리 크로스(Sherry Kloss)는 20세기 바이올린의 황제, 바이올린의 전설로 불리는 야샤 하이페츠의 마지막 제자로, 그의 음악적 생애를 담은 책 “Through My Eyes”의 저자이기도 하다.
스털링 국제콩쿨 등에서 수상한 이후 “이 시대의 가장 훌륭한 바이올리니스트 중의 하나”라는 평을 받기도 한 그녀는 미국, 캐나다, 유럽, 호주 등지에서 독주회를 열어 많은 갈채를 받았다.
그녀의 음반 “Forgotten Gems”과 “Lost & Found Treasures of the Heifetz Legacy”은 출반 후 지금까지도 꾸준히 인기를 끌고 있다.
쉐리 크로스는 하이페츠 재단의 공동 설립자이면서 사우던 오레곤대학 음대의 설립자로 초대 음악감독을 지냈다. 1998년 펜실베니아 피츠버그시로부터 “탁월한 피츠버그의 예술가”로 선정되기도 했으며, 2000년 가을부터 볼 스테이트대학 음대 교수로 재직 중이다.
쉐리 크로스는 이번 연주회에서 그녀의 정신적 지주로서 많은 음악적 영향을 받은 하이페츠 편곡 작품들을 연주한다.
Among the foremost violinists of her generation, Sherry Kloss has performed great acclaim throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. Her "singing style" reflects the influence of her close association as pupil and master teaching assistant to Jascha Heifetz. Her recordings, "Forgotten Gems" and "Lost & Found Treasures of the Heifetz Legacy" have received national recognition with extensive interviews on NRP"s "Weekend Edition," "Performance Today," and "The Studs Terkel Almanac." Founder and Artistic Director of the Music Institute for the Development of Personal Style at Southern Oregon University, and co-founder of Jasha Heifetz Society, she joined the Ball State University School of Music faculty in the fall of 2000 as professor of music performance and the Sursa Distinguished Professor in Fine Arts. She holds the prestigious Honorary Degree of Excellence from Siena, Italy"s Academic Chigiana Musicale and serves as an adjudicator for international competitions. In 1998, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, issued a proclamation recognizing her as a prominent Pittsburgh artist. She plays the Heifetz-Tononi violin.
