2005 La Guitarra California Festival

As Festival Director and on behalf of Cuesta College's Community Programs Department and the Cuesta Guitar Circle, it is my privilege to invite you to the 2005
La Guitarra California Festival.

Our three-day classical guitar festival, La Guitarra California, will be held September 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2005 at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, CA.  San Luis Obispo is equal distances between San Francisco and Los Angeles on the beautiful Central Coast.

Presented by the Cuesta Guitar Circle and sponsored by Cuesta College’s Community Programs Department, the 2005 Festival will feature 20 internationally acclaimed artists performing in 16 separate events!  There will be four Master-classes, numerous luthier exhibits, and the famous Forderer Collection of Rare and Historical Guitars will be on display.

Since our 1999 Festival, La Guitarra California has become one of the premier classical guitar festivals in the United States with ever increasing international interest.

Friday: We start the Festival with a 4:30 pm Master-class conducted by the highly acclaimed French composer, arranger and guitarist, Roland Dyens.  Friday evening’s "Kick-Off Concerts" start at 7:00pm and will feature local composer and guitarist, James Edwards, performing works of Central California composers including a tribute to the late Reed Gilchrist.  After a short intermission, the world renowned Flamenco guitarist, Adam del Monte will perform with his exciting "Flamenco Jazz Quartet."

Saturday:  The festival starts with two Master-classes conducted by Fabio Zanon and Cem Duruöz.  The concerts begin with the fabulous Berta Rojas from Paraguay followed by a lecture by composer, theorist and author, David Doty.  His short lecture will be "Introduction to Just Intonation" followed by John Schneider’s concert performance in "just tunings" on "tempered guitars" (with interchangeable fretboards).  From Greece the wonderful Elena Papandreou will share her formidable talents, and Andrew York will close out Saturday’s program with a world premier composition for the festival.

Sunday:  The festival starts with a Master-class conducted by Elena Papandreou.  The concerts begin with the unique Venere Lute Quartet. Then, direct from Poland, the marvelous guitar and violin duo of Kuropacezewski/Bryla will be followed by the fantastic Brazilian, Fabio Zanon.  The highly acclaimed Cem Duruöz from Turkey will perform in a Tango Duo with world renowned Argentinian Coco Trivisonno on bandoneon. The festival ends with a performance from the internationally acclaimed French composer, arranger and guitarist, Roland Dyens.
